Chinese Language and Chinese Studies: 3 Students Secure Early Employment at Gucci Korea
[전주대신문 제934호 14면, 업로드일: 2023년 10월 25일(수)] Chinese Language and Chinese Studies: 3 Students Secure Early Employment at Gucci Korea Following our college's official name change from the former "College of Humanities" to the "College of Humanities and Contents," we are pleased to announce our first early employment news. The Department of Chinese Language and Culture, chaired by Professor Insik Kim, reported that three students have secured employment with Gucci Korea through the Bestar program. This includes one student from the class of '19 and two from the class of '20. These students secured their positions after undergoing job training and individual interviews with Gucci Korea executives and staff during the vacation. They are set to begin roles as managers at Gucci stores in Daejeon and Gwangju, starting this October. Professor Kim In-sik of the Chinese Language Department remarked, “As the coronavirus pandemic subsides and the demand for Chinese language skills rebounds, we're observing a clear uptick in job opportunities in sectors like hotels, tourism, and duty-free shops. Especially with programs like Gucci's, preference is given to Chinese speakers, which has allowed our students to excel.” The Department of Chinese Language and Chinese Studies is adapting to the evolving job market. We offer tracks in Chinese tourism interpretation (covering travel agencies, tours, hotels, duty-free shops, airlines, etc.), Chinese content (focusing on content planning, production, and media marketing), and Chinese business (geared towards trading companies and the public sector). We have further restructured our curriculum, allowing students to pursue dual bachelor's degrees in specialized majors like institutions and civil service. This reorganization aims to enhance students' employability through practical training tailored to each track. In addition to the Gucci partnership, our Department operates an overseas hotel employment program. [전주대신문 제934호 14면, 업로드일: 2023년 10월 25일(수)] Jeonju University Volunteers to Enhance Heating for Underprivileged Residents On the 18th, in collaboration with the Jeonbuk Regional Problem Solving Platform, a hub for regional innovation, our university (led by President Park Jin-bae) took part in the‘Campaign to Improve Heating for Vulnerable Residents.' This initiative assists elderly individuals struggling with inadequate heating, with student council members actively participating. Jeonju University launched the ‘Fossil Fuel Warm Room Project’ as a volunteer effort targeting those in the local community who are vulnerable in terms of housing. This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to a sustainable future, emphasizing carbon-neutral university ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) practices that enhance heating environments while promoting eco-friendly energy. The Jeonbuk Regional Problem Solving Platform chose this campaign as a priority. Roughly 20 diverse entities, encompassing student councils, public institutions, local governments, intermediary support organizations, private entities, and startups, collaborated on the effort. Given that many of the disadvantaged residents are elderly and face mobility challenges, our students aided these seniors. They cleared accumulated waste from their homes, relocated household items to accommodate carbon fiber heating installations, and helped with general cleaning. Furthermore, social enterprises like Hi Housing, The Deum, and Onyu contributed to the carbon fiber heating installation. The Korea Electrical Safety Corporation and the Jeonbuk Development Corporation donated daily essentials to ameliorate living conditions, while Econexon supplied solar power installations. Key intermediary supporters such as the Jeonju City Housing Welfare Center, Jeonju Sustainability Association, and Jeonju City Energy Center facilitated the identification of beneficiaries and fostered community collaboration. Private enterprises, including the social enterprise Yeonyuldamda, generated content to spotlight and address heating challenges faced by the vulnerable. Student Council President Bae Ji-hoon, reflecting on his involvement, shared, "I was eager to participate. I hoped to emphasize the significance of community engagement and environmental conservation through this initiative.” Director Han Dong-sung of the Regional Innovation Center stated their intention to actively support housing-challenged individuals in the future. He emphasized the university's responsibility in addressing local issues and championing ESG-focused projects. Earlier in March, the Jeonbuk Regional Problem Solving Platform organized a public contest addressing regional concerns, inviting Jeonbuk residents to participate. [전주대신문 제934호 14면, 업로드일: 2023년 10월 25일(수)] Jeonju University's Regular Recruitment Saw an Increase in the Number of Applicants Compared to the Previous Year Our university, led by President Park Jin-bae, announced that 10,197 students applied for the 2024 rolling admissions for new students, recruiting 2,802 students, which is approximately 300 more than the number of applicants from the previous year. Despite the rapid decline in the school-age population and an increase of 100 in the number of regular applicants compared to the previous year, Jeonju University is solidifying its position as a prestigious private university in the region by surpassing the previous year's number of applications. When categorized by screening type, the student department (regional talent 2 screening) showed the highest competition rate at 18.00 to 1, the student affairs department (regional talent 1 screening) was at 7.63 to 1, the student affairs department (rural student screening) was at 4.89 to 1, and the student records total for General Student Admission showed a competition rate of 4.29 to 1. The Student Affairs Department (General Student Admission) had a competition rate of 3.85 to 1. Notably, the student department curriculum screening had a higher number of applicants compared to the previous year. By department, the Department of Physical Therapy had the highest competition rate of 22.08 to 1 in the student division (general student selection), the nursing department in the student division (general student selection) had a rate of 18.73 to 1, and the nursing department in the student division (regional talent 2 selection) had a high competition rate of 18.00 to 1. The Department of Nursing in the student department (regional talent 1 selection) had a rate of 14.22 to 1, and the radiology department in the student department (general student selection) had a rate of 12.29 to 1. The nursing department, in particular, appeared to have gained popularity among test-takers, as it now offers teaching positions starting from freshmen in the 2024 school year. It is especially important to note the competition rate of departments newly established in 2024, such as the Department of Webtoon and Comics Contents and the Department of Food and Nutrition. In the case of the Department of Webtoon and Comic Contents, the competition rate in the student department (general student admission) was 10.43 to 1, and the Department of Food and Nutrition recorded a competition rate of 5.29 to 1 in the overall student department (general student admission).
