Distance education is getting explosively popular and online courses are the new trend in universities. And people are choosing distance education not as an alternative to in-class education but for its educational effectiveness. As there are pros and cons to in-class education, online education also has its pros and cons. And by having an understanding of how to overcome disadvantages of online education and maximize advantages of it, educators and students can utilize various methods and strategies that can significantly increase the quality of distance education.

Jeonju University’s Center for Distance Education (CDE) has established the following goals in order to support the faculty and students in their online education.

• Supporting development and operation of distance-centered courses and courses that use distance education techniques.
• Supporting development of open courses like K-MOOC, JJ-MOOC and KOCW courses.
• Supporting research and training in online teaching and learning methods, strategies and media
• Improving performance of distance courses by establishing and operating a system for managing the quality of distance education
• Operating and improving online learning management systems (Cyber Campus, LMS)
