- Selection of three locations by metropolitan city·province and expectation for solving problems such as safety and environment through digital social innovation -

Jeonju University (chancellor Hoin Lee) was selected as the final choice for ‘Building a Digital Social Innovation (DSI) Support Center’ project to create a sustainable digital social innovation ecosystem sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency.

As a project to narrow the digital gap in the region, Digital Society Innovation (DSI) ecosystem creation project is a project to realize social values through digital and to train professionals and social innovation leaders who solve regional problems.

To systematically support the regional DSI project, Digital Social Innovation Support Center plans to select three regions, Seoul, Chuncheon, and North Jeolla Province, to test-run the project for the first time this year and spread it across the country. In North Jeolla Province, under the supervision of Jeonju University, Jeonju IT&CT Industry Promotion Agency, Jeollabukdo Business Agency, and Jeollabukdo Creative Economy Innovation Center will operate in cooperation.

The living lab project, social venture testbed program, community innovation capability, systematic cooperation model with local social innovation institutions being pursued by Jeonju University appear to be the background of being selected through fierce competition.

The center focuses on intensive training, support for DSI solutions, and consulting activities that train local activists as DSI experts who can derive digital technology solutions. It will also carry out a resident participatory program that solves social problems in the region with a living lab based DSI project.

Professor Hyungwong Park of Jeonju University, in charge of the DSI Support Center in North Jeolla Province, said that “The DSI support center will serve as a hub for the government’s digital social innovation project in the future, drawing keen attention from local social innovation agencies. We will carry out various projects such as training DSI leaders so that DSI solutions can be incorporated into various social innovation projects and activities in the region.”
